Recently a controversy happened regarding the actions of AICTE on various MBA courses that they approve in different Indian colleges. An educational group has filed a petition to the Supreme Court claiming that some private institutes in Tamil Nadu and Association of Management of Private Colleges have stopped MBA programs from many of AICTE approved colleges claiming that these management courses are non technical.
Presently the state Government are running the universities like Pune, Mumbai, Delhi and so on and the deemed to be universities like Symbiosis International University, Mumbai Narsee Monjee, IIFT, Delhi. But SC claims that they are not supposed to be kept on the same level. It is now found that AICTE has less impact on these institutes. Rather AICTE is working more with the government approved colleges and universities following the guidelines of the committees set up by UGC.
Whether MBA courses are technical:
There is still some confusion whether MBA programs are technical and if AICTE is the right body to offer approval to these universities. Now, some of the b-schools are still confused whether PGDM programs are technical too. If not, then AICTE will not vet these colleges. This contradiction is still in the air.
Finally the fate of the CMAT is also completely depending on the court orders. Some interviewers asked Dr SK Mahajan, the head of the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) Marashtra about this question, he answered that -even he is also not very sure about what will be finally implemented by the court.
AICTE says:
The legal representative of AICTE commented that when the universities are directly governing the approved colleges then where lays the importance of this body. AICTE will only approve and will support to those institutes those are solely governed and affiliated by this body.
This is the contradiction regarding MBA courses in different B schools in India.
